About

My name is Kristina, and I've been living in Japan since 2016. After graduating language school in Osaka, I relocated to Tokyo for work. I was overwhelmed by the crowds and tourists visiting same spots over and over again. Being highly sensitive to environmental sounds, I decided to travel to different corners of Japan in search of untouched, tranquil spots with fewer or no visitors.
At first, I wished to keep these places a secret to preserve their serenity. However, engaging with locals revealed that responsible tourism could help revitalize struggling areas. With young people leaving for urban centers, traditions fading, and historic structures abandoned due to lack of funding, I realized that responsible tourism could hold the key to preserving these beautiful locations.

Now I am focusing solely on lesser-known spots to combat the issue of overtourism in Japan. By shedding light on hidden gems and less-visited areas, I aim to provide travelers with unique and authentic experiences while alleviating the strain on popular tourist destinations. This approach not only ensures a more sustainable and enjoyable travel experience for visitors, but it also supports local communities and preserves the cultural and natural treasures that make Japan so special. Through showcasing these off-the-beaten-path locations, I hope to contribute to a more balanced and responsible tourism landscape in Japan.

I also assist hotels, travel agencies, and other travel-related organizations in Japan with creating digital content. Additionally, I manage PR efforts through my Instagram blog with about 200,000 followers: @sugalenin.
